Psych-Jazz quartet plantoid have dropped their new single, ‘Dog’s Life’, to mark their signing to Bella Union. It’s a spacey, frenetic track with a unique sound that borrows from psychedelia, prog and post-rock. A gritty, distorted guitar sits at the front of the track, providing staccato melodies and chunky, syncopated chords that play against the voice of Chloe Spence, juxtaposing her lilting, ethereal melodies. The band succeeds in their intent to craft a sound that can switch from blissful to heavy in an instant. The Brighton-based band have a lot to prove over the next few months, and will quickly cement themselves as one of the UK’s most inventive rock acts. -Dan Peeke
